ineo+ 5501: the move to digital print production

Langenhagen, December 2008. High profitability, superb print results, high perform-ance and first-class finishing functions – all characteristics of the new ineo+ 5501. As the successor to the ineo+ 5500, it has first and foremost been developed for compa-nies with a high print output, up to a maximum of 250,000 pages per month, such as copy shops and printers looking to move into digital print production.

Patrick Klaus, Product Manager for the ineo+ 5501, cites further advantages of the system. “The wide range of media, professional colour management and maximum 250,000 sheet per month performance promises a high degree of flexibility. The incredibly stable construction is also a superb fit for the tough print production environment. In conjunction with the finishing options, the system is the ideal introduction to digital print production, with consistent copy costs from first to last.”

More quality
The specially developed, polymerised HD toner consists of extremely small, smooth particles (3 5µm), which facilitate a much sharper printed image. This is primarily reflected in the crisp and clear reproduction of fine lines, colours and depth of black. Because the toner furthermore has an unusually low fixing temperature, it is possible to process the media especially gently. The optional fan heater in the ineo’s large-capacity feeder ensures perfect handling of differ-ent media in cold and damp environments.

More flexibility
Whether invitations or reports, scientific papers or posters, the ineo+ 5501 prints thin and coated papers just as well as card. It copes with A5 to SRA3, as well as weights up to 300g/m2. But the printing system is also flexible where use for direct marketing is concerned, for example, because the ineo+ 5501′s Variable Data Printing (VDP) function – a standard for the optional Fiery and Creo Controller – enables personalised printing. Image data, text and database contents can be customised to each addressee using the VDP tool. Of course this also applies to mailshots, as well as invoices, customer letters, etc.

More innovation
In the case of the ineo+ 5501, numerous technical innovations and features contribute to the colours appearing even brighter and the print result even more precise. TagBit technology, for example, extracts and fills border pixels, to smooth out ragged edges during halftone printing. A much better result is also achieved for contours and reversed-out type, or text on a black ground. Two raster technologies for line and dot rastering ensure visibly finer gradations of colour. The thin, expandable transfer belt, which immediately adapts to different media and fluctuating toner volumes, helps to avoid what is known as the halo effect (white areas).

More finishing
Rapid finishing is often also required, especially in the case of high print output. There is a choice of two optional finishing units for the ineo+ 5501 to meet this requirement. One pro-duces finished brochures of up to 80 pages, staples 50 sheets and folds letters. The other unit’s capacity extends to 50-sheet stapling. Both finishers can be additionally equipped with a post-inserter, for feeding preprinted title pages, for example, and a 2- or 4-hole punching unit. Moreover, ineo+ 5501 finishing is fully automated. The commands are simply issued online during printing.
